Here is a Fun, hands-on letter matching game to be used by other mamas and educators.
As we begin our homeschooling journey, one of my goals is to make learning as fun as possible. I don’t want “school” to be something my kids are moaning about every day. I want to nurture their love for learning as much as possible by creating a no-pressure atmosphere full of curiosity, creativity, and adventure.
With all that in mind, J has been learning her letters and I wanted a FUN way for her to learn her upper and lower case letters in a way that was more hands-on than going through a workbook.
That’s how I came up with this Cupcake Letter Matching Game.
What I made is a really straightforward 13-page document. For each Letter of the alphabet, there is a cupcake bottom (lowercase) and top (uppercase). There are 2 letters per sheet.
These cupcake pieces can be used in many different ways to teach children letter recognition and other early reading skills.
How we used the Cupcakes
The first time I presented this to J, I set it up like a craft. I gave her glitter glue, crayons, and sequins to decorate with.
I glued just the cupcake bottom to a piece of card stock and left it up to her to find the matching top and glue it into place.
She loved this! I can always count on crafty things to keep her attention.
Here are a few other ideas
- Give the sheets as coloring pages before cutting them out
- Cut them out and play similarly to the game memory.
- Use as a group craft where everyone gets to decorate cupcakes spelling out their own names.
- Laminate or print on cardstock for a long-lasting learning material.
- Set them up as a bakery, with other toy kitchen items.
The possibilities are endless! Use your imagination and create a learning experience that fits your child’s learning style.
This document is available as a PDF download bundled with my Alphabet dot marker worksheets.
NEW: There is now also a blank cupcake sheet that includes a candle and cherry to further decorate the cupcakes!
These can be found on my Etsy shop HERE or simply click the button above to go directly there.
I hope you love this, and, as always, I would love any and all feedback! Happy Learning ♡
