Halloween Sensory Tray

October 20, 2022

We love a themed activity and this Halloween sensory tray ticks all the boxes!

Make sure you check out the reel I made for this activity on my Instagram. It’s neat to watch Jane’s toddler hands at play!

Halloween Sensory Play

Halloween is sneaking up on me, so I did this simple activity for Jane yesterday. It was the fastest setup for the longest playtime.

It was just what we BOTH needed. Jane has been kinda bored lately and my tired brain is still living in newborn land. This was super easy for me and super fun for her. Mom win!

Easy Setup

While she was napping I put green dyed rice (left over from THIS project), dried white beans, and orange lentils into a Halloween serving tray. The tray was on sale for $2 after Halloween last year. I threw in some little plastic pumpkins, spider rings, and a wooden spoon from her kitchen set to make it a full activity.

I couldn’t find dried black beans but the white ones look better than I thought they would mixed in with the other colors.

Playtime!

I love setting up her table with activities while she’s napping. She is always so excited to discover them, it starts her afternoon off in a good mood, and she is immediately occupied so I can get other things done.

She initially spent about an hour scooping, pouring, and mixing all the “seeds” (as she called them) and continued to go back to it throughout the afternoon.

I have left it there for her to continue to play with today (and maybe until Halloween) and she has now transferred some of the mixture to her little kitchen set to stir and pretend to cook in her little pots and pans. Her imagination has completely taken off just recently and I LOVE it!

Enjoy your Halloween Sensory Tray!

I’ll keep this one short and sweet. I hope you got some good inspiration here and please tag me @thatmamachick in your posts if you end up doing a Halloween set up for your littles!

Your sensory play doesn’t have to look just like mine, my goal is to inspire you! Use whatever tray (we often use disposable baking pans), filler, and accessories you have on hand or happen upon at the dollar store! I can’t wait to see what you come up with. Enjoy! and have a spooky rest of the month!
