Feed The Turkey

November 19, 2022

This a super simple activity you can do with your kids for Thanksgiving. Let them feed the turkey while you prepare the feast!

Feed The Turkey

Here’s what you need

  • A bottle
    • The bottle should have a wider mouth than a regular soda bottle, I really love the glass bottles from Starbucks bottled coffees. Certain coffee creamer bottles might work as well.
  • Feathers
    • I made construction paper feathers but would have used craft feathers if had had them on hand.
  • Googly eyes
  • Construction paper beak and wattle
  • Pompoms
  • small tongs
  • Glue
    • Elmers or whatever you have on hand will work just fine. (if using actual feathers, you might need a little tape)

Feed the Turkey

Put your turkey together and set it out with a tray or bowl full of pompoms for your kids. Depending on the age of your child, you can demonstrate using the tongs first before letting them take over.

This could be fun with a group of children too! Make each of them a turkey and have them race to see who can feed their turkey the fastest.

Activities with tongs like this one are great for working your child’s hand muscles and developing coordination and concentration. But let’s be real. The best part of this is that it’s turkey-themed!!

A mini turkey lesson

You can use this as a mini-lesson for your kids too. When you give it to them show them all the parts of the turkey: Eyes, Beak, Wattle, Tail Feathers. Have them repeat the parts back to you and when they’re done filling it up, see if they remember them all.

Show them a picture of a real turkey and ask them to point out the same parts.

Get silly with it, put your hand under your chin and flap all your fingers back and forth as you make turkey sounds.

Happy Turkey Day
